The story behind the image
Florence. The uber-metropolis of arts in the old times. And today. Of course, when you visit Florence, it is very likely that you are going to see the Piazzale degli Uffizi and I do recommended a visit. Here’s why: The tiny plaza (which is the meaning of Piazzale) is surrounded by magnificient artwork. One example is this statue of Farinata degli Uberti, an Italian aristocrat, knight and military leader who lived in Italy in the 13th century.
As always, Wikipedia has more details than you could wish for.
