The story behind the image
I don’t know the gentleman on this photo which belongs to a bigger lot of CdV photos I acquired a while ago. It was probably shot around 1907 at Atelier Victoria in Kiel, Germany. A handwritten note on the back says: “Otto Davieds from Marutendorf. Was a student there.” I hoped this to be a good starting point but the name Otto Davieds [yes, with an ‘e’] did not yield any good matches. Even for similar names and extended periods of time, there were no useful results. Too bad.
Apparently, Mr. Davieds was a student in farming with the goal to become a farm manager himself. I especially like his proud, determined look. The background is a studio background, of course, but it looks like a perfect match for him.
The farm Marutendorf is situated between Kiel and Rendsburg has a long history that dates back to the 14th century. Several changes in ownership happened, and the property changed over the centuries, too. But it is still active and looks as good as ever.
Anyway, I like the portrait and hope you do, too.
