The story behind the image

A couple of days ago we did a side trip to the village of Ebbs in Austria to see the young Haflinger stallions being escorted from their summer paddock up in the Alps back into the valley. This is being organized by the Haflinger Pferdezuchtverband Tirol and ends with a big parade through the village into the Fohlenhof Ebbs.

Now, at first this seemed to be not as spectacular for the spectators as similar cattle drives in the area because the horses are faster and not decorated too heavily. However, it was quite a sight when the large and impressive herd of young stallions was escorted into the stadium of the farm. After the presentation the herd was released so the horses could run freely around the large arena. And this, dear reader, was an incredble experience!

We could feel the power of the young horses, even after that long four hour walk from their summer paddock into the valley. I took a number of images and picked this one because the energy is clearly visible here. Their manes were waving in the wind, and especially the one in the top right corner had extremely wavy hair. 🙂

Awesome.

P.S.: If you are in the area, please consider visiting the Fohlenhof Ebbs as they regulary run specatcular shows and organize events promoting Haflinger horses.
