The story behind the image
The morning sun at the sea seems to be even more beautiful than elsewhere, and I do not have the faintest idea why? It it the unobstructed light that emerges directly from the horizon (and thus is as warm and soft as possible)? Is it the presence of the sea (in the background)?
Anyway, one morning, on my way to the local bakery in Grömitz, Germany, I crossed the central plaza and realized how stunning the light was. I noticed the reflections of the Strandhalle (‘beach hall’) that hosts several restaurants today as well as the office of the tourist information. I love this photo that is almost straight from the camera.
I also found a postcard in the archive that shows the central plaza around the year 1942. Apparently, the beach hall did not have the smaller buildings at the huge front which also had several windows. The main entrance to the sea bridge featured several posters, probably informing about the passenger ferries and activities in the region. What’s more, the beach promenade did not yet have the low walls that are present today, and you could enter the beach anywhere.
Lovely.
