The story behind the image
Port Hardy at the northern tip of Vancouver Island in British Columbia is the (self-acclaimed) capital of fishing, logging, and mining! It is also the gate towards the islands and northern regions of B.C. as it has a busy ferry harbour.
We boarded the ferry in the morning, but of course we were ahead of time and could watch the activity at the ferry port. Cars were leaving the ferry, and we were getting nervous because we had never been on such a long ride with a passenger ferry, just short trips of maybe 30 to 60 minutes.
Our journey towards Bella Coola on the mainland – far away from anywhere – would begin soon. The weather was mixed, and it would get worse later in the morning but then it cleared up and we made it safely to Bella Coola.
A wonderful mini-cruise!
