The story behind the image
Late in winter in 1999 we spent a long weekend in the city of Vienna, Austria, to explore it and it is really friendly and beautiful.
One of the many atrractions is Schloss Schönbrunn, which is as impressive in reality as it looks on photos. In the western part of the huge gardens we found the Palmenhaus (lit. House of Palm Trees), a large greenhouse that dates back to 1882. When it opened its doors it was the largest glass building in the world. Read more about the greenhouse and its long history at Österreichische Bundesgärten (in German.)
The combination of steel and glass looks quite unique to me, and I found that this angle brings across the impressive size and delicate mix of materials quite well.
Visiting Vienna, Schönbrunn and the Palmenhaus must be even better in summer, so I think we need to return for a long weekend someday.
