The story behind the image
Dublin in Ireland is full of history which makes the city a super attractive destination.
My photo from our 1999 trip to the Republic of Ireland shows one of the oldest churches in Dublin, Christ Church Cathedral which is also known as the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Its origins date back to the 11th century, when the Vikings occupied the city. On that day, we were quite lucky concerning the weather, and I was able to take the image against a clear blue sky.
Little did we know that the weather would change soon and exactly once we crossed the city borders heading for the south-western coast. Within just an hour or so, the weather changed from blue skies to dramatic clouds (and some rain) and back to blue skies again. These dynamic weather conditions followed us on our entire trip across the island.
Nonetheless, our trip was awesome, especially because the people across the country are super friendly and helpful. (I’ll never forget Mrs. J. B. Phelan of Lough Talt in Co. Sligo who provided us with a room in her B&B and offered us a tea when we arrived very late to her house.)
Gosh, I need to return to this beautiful island.
