The story behind the image
A while ago I shared a gear talk on my Agfa Super Silette-L (now sold), a camera that was launched back in 1958. It came with a sturdy brown leather case that protected the camera against damages when not in use. Today they don’t sell these bags anymore. Instead, cameras that need protection are ruggedized, like my Canon EOS 1D mark IV.
While shooting the camera for the article I also tried some unusual perspectives like this one, a close-up of an embossed label at the bottom of the leather case reading MADE IN GERMANY. In 2025, this historic claim sounds strange today as more and more manufacturers are closing their factories in Germany and move abroad, or cease business completely. In 1958, the claim was a sign of pride to be back in business after WW2 and continued to stand for high quality and reliability until the end of the century. Well, well. Everything comes to an end at some point in time.
Anyway, the EF 100mm f/2.8L did a fantastic job at aperture f/2.8. The depth of field is super narrow, just as wide as the letter D. Anything else is beautifully blurred.
Very, very nice.
