The story behind the image
This is The Customs House (Teach an Chustaim) in Dublin, Ireland. My image focuses on the beautiful dome (made from copper) and the statues at the top of the front entrance. The Irish national flag waves gently in the summer breeze. The dome itself is a key feature of the iconic building, which was erected in the 18th century and served – as the name suggests – as a customs office for all goods that entered the island of Ireland through the large harbour of the city. The huge building resembles the Somerset House in London, UK.
Today, the building is home to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. A visitor experience center shows the building, burning and restoration of the structure across its long history.
