The story behind the image
As you may know, we’re back from a refreshing summer vacation at the German Baltic Sea. Apart from going to the beach and enjoying a lot of excellent seafood, I took the time to visit some of the places of my ancesters, especially their churches.
Here’s a nice shot of the Marienkirche in Ahrensbök which dates back to the year 1320. Several of my ancesters used to live in or around the town, including:
- My great grandfather Theodor Schweim (1857-1926) who was born near Ahrensbök and got baptized in this church. All his brothers and sisters were baptized here.
- My great great grandfather Hans Hinrich Schweim (1801-1895) who got baptized, confirmed, and buried here. (He got married in Gleschendorf, though.)
- My great great grandmother Anna Dorothea Junge (1819-1896) who got buried here, next to her husband Hans Hinrich.
- My great great great grandfather Hans Schweim (1775-1851) who got buried here.
- My great great great grandmother Engel Christina Wöbs (1788-1854) who got buried here next to her husband Hans.
I was excited to be at the location where a significant part of my family had lived and prayed.
