The story behind the image

I’m not a big fan of photographing at the zoo, because there is a certain sadness to the captured animals. However, every now and then I’m tempted to pull out my phone and photograph a nice moment or scenery.

I captured this image on a beautiful summer day at the zoo in Leipzig, Germany. We had a good time at the zoo, just like their lions. My position was perfect, and I admire the confidence and alertness of the animal. It looks relaxed but seems to constantly survey its surroundings with interest, always ready to attack whoever might come along. Pure power.

The Lepzig Zoo, by the way, is excellent, and I strongly recommend a visit if you are in the city.
