The story behind the image
We drove from Windhoek on the C26 just to get a sense of the adventure that was lying ahead of us: two weeks in Nambia, and visits to three National Parks (Etosha, the Skeleton Coast, and the Sossusvlei.) We had picked up our rentral car – a blue Volkswagen Polo Classic – earlier that day and wanted to get acquainted with this new companion. (Please note the clean state of the car!)
For the first few miles, there were no real differences to central Europe or the US. However, when this sign warned us of the ending of the tarred section – and upcoming gravel section – I thought this was an exciting moment and captured this photo.
Little did we know that it would turn out to be a real adventure! While the gravel highways in Namibia were well maintained, we would find out much later that we were utterly wrong with our assumption. More here.
