The story behind the image

This large cabinet photo was part of a bigger lot I acquired last year. As so often, it does not carry any reference as to the person depicted, or the capture date. It was shot at the Atelier Samson & Co. in Wiesbaden, Germany. The studio was part of a bigger network of studios that all operated under the Atelier Samson & Co. brand across Germany. As per information by ChatGPT, the studio in Wiesbaden was active between 1905 and 1915.

The image was shot in the larger vertical CdV format and has been mounted to a large cardboard of 10 x 16.2 cm, suggesting a long-lasting use of the image, for example in a frame.
