Generative AI in Art
Over the past couple of weeks I exposed you to my series Sunset in AI-Land which explored the capabilities of generative AI in use for art. It all started with this beautiful sunset image that I created with the help of ChatGPT. When I started I had this photo in mind that I shot on the island of Kos in Greece. I never not shared that image with ChatGPT, though, so the service was not aware of this image.
However, the result was pretty convincing, if not overwhelming. I repeatedly requested visualizations in different styles to see and compare the results to check the capabilities of the service.
In the end, 15 additional, entirely new images had been created – from pointilism, cubism, pop art, and comic style, to surrealism and neo-expressionism, and more. I like them. Some more, some less, but they are all impressive and unique in a way. AI is a powerful helper that can help stimulating new ideas and quick visualizations of such ideas.
However, if you are going to use AI for your projects, I suggest to always check the results carefully. More than once I have seen undesired issues or outright errors, for example ropes that end up in the wrong places or rules that have not been obeyed. But these are minor issues in my view.
Today I wanted to share a high resolution poster that I created in the traditional way and without further assistance from ChatGPT. At the top is the original source image (created by AI) followed by 15 variants. Here is the high resolution JPEG file (as ZIP archive.)
