The story behind the image
Here’s another photo from one of my best trips ever. I had completed my civil service in Germany (as a First Responder) and had a bit of money and a lot of time. And so my girlfriend and I decided to spend six to eight weeks in Portugal.
First, we explored the Algarve region in the south. On our long way back to Germany we did a stop-over in Lisbon for a couple of days. The hotel was a budget hotel back in 1988 but the location near the city center was perfect for us.
This photo shows a small park near the hotel – the beautiful Jardim do Príncipe Real. A gardener was sprinkling the greens. Children and their parents at the playground. This small park was really a tiny oasis in the busy, pulsating captial. Looking at recent photos from the area, it seems that this wonderful atmosphere could be retained.
(The palm tree is probably gone, though.)
