The story behind the image
Wildlife? Sometimes I just hate it.
This image shows a really nasty fellow, a larva of a box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis), as it crawled on one of our box trees in front of the house. In fact, the trees were full with those insects that simply love boxwood plants.
It is a species of moth, belonging to the family Crambidae, and has become an invasive pest that has caused significant damage to boxwood plants in Europe and more recently in North America. The larvae of this moth are known to defoliate boxwood shrubs, which severly damages them.
And had happened to our trees as well. So we decided to remove them altogether (the trees), and this was the last photo prior to the removal of the plants. At least, it was good for the use of the macro lens. 😉
I have still no idea what is going to replace the gap in the front yard, but I know that it won’t be box trees for sure!
