The story behind the image
Tuscany is so much more than Florence, Siena, and Pisa? While these gems certainly shine brightly and attract the masses, they all lack – a decent beach! But Tuscany actually has a long west coast with many beaches. In 2012, we spent our summer vacation in Castiglione della Pescaia. It’s an old town with stunning architecture in its historic town center but it has large, beautiful beaches as well.
I captured this image on the way from our holiday appartment into the town center. The warm sunlight of the late afternoon was already creating long shadows that added depth and contrast to the scene. The sun-seekers did not mind and used their beach chairs until the sun was setting.
Castiglione della Pescaia is certainly a hidden gem in Tuscany, and I hope to return one day.
