The story behind the image

Yesterday I shared an image of our exciting, scary, and slow, drive along the Via Panoramica exploring the west coast of the Monte Argentario peninsula. This road circles the peninsula, and it’s tempting to take the full circle. And we did. But when we realized that a 4 kilometer section between Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole was actually a gravel road (starting here), we were puzzled.

Should we return to Porto Santo Stefano and probably miss countless beautiful views? Or should go ‘all in’ and take the gravel road, slowly and carefully driving around the potholes? After all, it was ‘just’ 4 kilometers. But it wrecked our nerves. And our Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 TSpark managed the gravel road just so-so.

Imagine our joy when we finally reached the town of Porto Ercole! We were greeted by this beautiful view across the harbour.
