The story behind the image

Today is the 1st of July, and the people of Canada celebrate Canada Day, previously called Dominion Day. On this day in 1867 the Canadian Confederation was passed with the British North America Act. This event united the three separate colonies of the United Canadas, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single dominion within the British Empire, named Canada.

And I admire the Canadians – for being Canadian. You’ve got the desire for individual freedom deeply embedded in your DNA. You believe in yourself and the liberty of the society. That’s awesome.

I’ll be celebrating with you today, even if I am not in Canada right now. But I think it’s only fair to publish this image today. I found it in Victoria, B.C., on the roof of the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
