The story behind the image

Every now and then, the Isar river that flows through Munich in Germany, gets flooded. This can happen when long and strong rain hits the area between Munich and the Alps.

This happened in June 2009 again. I remember that it had rained heavily for a couple of days already, and the Isar was flooded. This completely changed the appearance of the river in the city center of Munich during the flood.

Usually, you would be able to walk across the meadows next to the river. Now ducks were enjoying the new found space – and people were walking on the remaining paths, covered by umbrellas to protect against the heavy rain that was still pouring down relentlessly.
