The story behind the image
A couple of days ago I shared our experience visiting Stefanos Crater on the island of Nisiros in Greece. When we left the ship, we stumbled upon the post office of the island. This came surprised us, because the island had a permanent population of about 1,048 inhabitants (2021). On the other hand, countless tourists visit the island every summer, so there is a small chance that a post office made sense, economically. (No doubt that it made sense emotionally, as the people of the island certainly loved to have a link back to the main island and rest of the country.)
A look at recent Google Streetview images reveals that the post office has moved out by now. At least, the signage is gone. Also, the building is in better shape than it was in 1994.
