The story behind the image
Driving from Atri in Italy up the east coast to Sirolo is not a pleasant thing to do. One boring tourist town after another. That’s why I recommend using the highway and take the Porto Recanati. Then, suddenly, things will change. When approaching Numana you will find beautiful beaches and moderate architecture.
Sirolo is situated right next to Numana and even more beautiful. The entire area was populated early in history. Several prehistoric settlements were found in the area. The castle of the town was built in the early 11th century atop older structures. In the Middle Ages, Sirolo also served as a vital refuge for monastic orders fleeing persecution.
My image shows the church Chiesa di San Nicolò di Bari in the town center.
We stayed for a night at the Camping Village Internazionale in Sirolo. This stunning camp site is located at the steep cliffs of the coast, directly above the Urbani Beach which is quite secluded.
