The story behind the image
To experience a real Formula 1 racing car up close is probably the dream of many kids, including myself (never mind my age.) When I visited the stunning BMW Welt in Munich, Germany, in 2009, this BMW Sauber F1.08 was part of the exhibition. The exhibitions change regularly and certain exhibits rotate, so I cannot say whether this specific car is still on display today. Please consult the official BMW Welt website.
Motorsport enthusiasts will love the BMW Museum which is located right next to BMW Welt, as it offers a permanent exhibition in the “House of Motorsport.” Various historic racing cars are on display there.
The BMW Sauber F1.08 was used by the BMW Sauber F1 Team in the 2008 season and was driven by Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld. The highlight was certainly the win at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix, the team’s only victory in its history. The chassis was developed entirely at the BMW Sauber plant in Hinwil, Switzerland.
My photo shows the car in display condition, one year after its active use. I consider it a significant piece of BMW motorsport history. More about this awesome racing car can be found at Wikipedia.
