The story behind the image
We had entered Scotland’s Castle Route and the Royal Deeside at Glenshee and had stayed for a night in Ballater. Now we were heading for the coast again.
But we made a detour to visit Craigievar Castle, a fairy tale castle located off A980 between Aboyne and Alford.. It has changed very little since it was first built in the early 17th century. It had been in posession of the Forbes family but was turned over to the National Trust for Scotland in 1963, complete with contents. When we visited, the castle was closed for restoration works but the surrounding parkland was open to the public.
And yes, the castle has been re-opened and looks better than ever. More information on the official site.
