The story behind the image
Here’s an interesting photo of Dublin’s oldest open-air market at Moore Street. As you can see, the weather was just so-so when we visited this market in 2005 – but the buildings and shops are noteworthy because the shops have almost completely changed since then. Today, there are many shops offering mobile phones and phone repairs. Gone is the Bingo Hall and its sign. Troy’s Family Butchers moved a bit up in Moore Street. They can now be found opposite of the Lidl supermarket.
The market itself is alive and kicking and quite busy. It could preserve its charms, so it’s really a bit diving into the old Dublin. The market has its own homepage which shows the opening times and explains its history. What’s more, you can download the booklet The Stories of Moore Street Market by Clare Baker. How cool is that?
