Generative AI in Art
Recently I discovered generative AI for photography, and I had a lot of fun with it. I already created images of an action figure showing myself, a beautiful sunset at the beach, and an exciting sunset over the harbour of Kos in Greece.
Here is yet another result from this excercise. Now, I asked ChatGPT to create a painting from the beautiful sunset image it had already created for me. I requested a visualization n the style of cubism which is characterized by the use of geometric shapes, fragmented forms, and the depiction of objects from multiple angles.
I am not shocked any longer that the result looks great. This artwork uses:
- Angular and intersecting shapes.
- A faceted, abstracted representation of the scene (the boat, sun, sea, and sky).
- Bold lines separating each geometric element.
- A focus on form and structure rather than realism.
These are clear indicators for cubism. The machine not only a created a nice photo out of nothing (well, nothing but my prompt). It also created a stunning artwork out of nothing (i.e., just another prompt.) So, one could say that it created the entire piece out of nothing. Isn’t that what art is all about?
