The story behind the image
In 2004 we travelled to South Africa for the first time. We wanted to start easy and discover the beauty of the so-called Garden Route – that’s the area between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha).
For the first part of the trip we drove from Cape Town through the hills via Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Robertson, Oudtshorn, and Willowmore to Addo. (For the second part we followed the coastline closely.) Especially the western portion is best known for its large vineyards that produce tasty wines enjoyed all over the world. But in the surroundings you’ll find good spots for hiking and climbing, too.
From Franschhoek we used the R45 towards Robertson over the Franschhoek Pass. It’s a beautiful drive with plenty of photo stops to capture the stunning views across the valley. During one of those stops I shot this image of our 2002 Renault Mégane, a sturdy, reliable and comfortable car.
Beautiful.
