The story behind the image
In 2001 I worked for brand new telecommunication provider Group3G in Germany. As the name implies, it aimed for taking the third generation of mobile networks (3G) to the market. The technology was not yet ready for roll-out, so the company focused on the launch under the brand name Quam.
As part of the launch preparations, we also had a large booth at the IT tradeshow SYSTEMS in Munich, Germany. I remember that one morning a Bavarian state minister visited the booth, followed by several camera teams and photographers.
The shareholders decided in summer 2002 to withdraw from the market.
A mixed bag of memories, of course, but all-in-all it was still a positive experience as we managed to launch a complete network operator with everything you would expect – brand, services, price plans, marketing, stores, customer service, billing – within just a year.
