The story behind the photo
On the island of Kos, Greece, we stayed at a hotel in Marmari Beach, but we also did an excursion with a rental car to the beautiful and busy city of Kos. (Well, as busy as a small town on an island can be.) It was a hot, sunny day late in summer, and we walked up to the ruins of the Kastro Neratzia fortress that dates back to the 14th century.
My photo shows the south-eastern corner of the fortress. The spot has not changed significantly over the past three decades. The plam trees have grown, the street lamp has been replaced by a taller one, and there are now bespoke bicycle lanes where just a plain street was before. But that’s it.
Lovely.
