The story behind the image
During our trip to Ireland in 1999, we also visited Howth, about 30 minutes north of Dublin. Today it is a busy suburb of Dublin but still has a lovely working harbour that has everything you’d expect from a genuine harbour: fish shops, boats and ships, pubs and restaurants, and panorama hikes along the coast.
The photo shows the former fish shop Molly Malone’s which was situated on the West Pier of Howth. (It was already abandoned when I captured the photo above.) Today, the building has been refurbished and looks much better than in 1999. It features a light blue paint where it was dark blue before, and the white looks bright and clean today. The windows have been replaced, and the Molly Malone’s sign has been removed (before 2009.)
Very little can be found on the Internet about the former fish shop, except one dry article from 2001 where the fish shop was mentioned.
