The story behind the image

If you have not noticed by now – we’re attracted by maritime settings. I grew up at the seaside, and I love the fresh and tasty air, the (sometimes) strong wind, the calls of the seagulls, and the constant activity on the water and at the harbour.

When we travelled to Ireland in 1999, we also took a sidetrip to Howth, about 30 minutes outside of Dublin. While it is a busy suburb of Dublin it still is a working harbour today that has everything you’d expect from a genuine harbour: fish shops, boats and ships, pubs and restaurants, and panorama hikes along the seaside. And, of course, lots of photo opportunities.

Just like these seagulls that had lined up on the rooftop of a building at the west pier to overlook the events at the harbour. A blue sky would have been nice but the grey clouds added a lot of realism showing the roughness of the coast.

Nice.
