The story behind the image
The Basilica di Sant’Antonio al Laterano in Rome does not look spectacular from the outside. One could easily pass it in Via Merulana without realizing that it is a majestic basilica that even has its own domain (in Italian.) Despite being rather new – built between 1884 and 1888 – the interior is full of historic artworks. It is considered the first monumental creation of Roman sacred architecture after 1870.
I think the one of the reasons why Rome is so exciting is the fact that there is so much history to be seen, almost everywhere, in a single city.
