The story behind the image
This image from the family archive was taken on an excursion to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. The ancesters apparently took the train from Garmisch via Grainau and Eibsee to the top. This line was built as a cog railway so that steep and slippery sections do not pose a problem for the trains.
Here, car number 4 approached the Eibsee station of the line. The image is one of the very few color shots from that period. It has aged over the past six decades and shows a heavy yellow-green shift which I corrected in Photoshop.
The area has not changed significantly, but the trains have. These are more modern today.
