The story behind the image
Here’s another image from our 2003 trip to the south-west of the United States. It shows Caesar’s Palace, the iconic hotel at the The Strip, at night. I used daylight slide film, so it was challenging to remove the warm color shift – but I love the image nonetheless. It shows the exquisite work of the architects and designers who created a stunning experience.
In general, we were disappointed by Las Vegas during the daylight. With all the lights missing it was (to us, anyway) a large collection of (mostly) ugly concrete towers in a hot city. This impression changes, however, as soon as the sun sets and creates a warm light. The ‘blue hour’ that follows can be overwhelming. Even the night is attractive with the zillions of tiny lights illuminating the buildings.
