The story behind the image

This is a photo from the family archive. It shows a couple posing for the photographer high above the river Rhein at the Drachenfels near Königswinter. The day is the beginning of summer, the 21st June of 1936.

The photographer was probably too excited by the magnificent view that he forgot to turn the focus on the couple posing for him. That’s why the background is very sharp while the couple is slightly out of focus (especially the woman.)

The view has not changed dramatically since 1936. It is still as beautiful as it was back then.
