The story behind the image
Back in 1957 one part of the family traveled from Oldenburg in Germany to Alicante in Spain – via the Black Forest. They probably had an overnight stop at the Adrionshof, a hotel on the countryside near Freudenstadt. It must have been such a pleasant experience that it worth well worth a photo.
The building belonged to the farm operated by the Adrion family for centuries. In the first half of the 19th century, it was one of the leading houses near Freudenstadt. It had it all: a working farm business for both crop and animals, a lovely wood, a huge property, quiet rooms, and great cuisine.
The descent began in the 1970s. Despite having invested seriously into the business, the number of stays were constantly dropping. In 2013, both the hotel business and the restaurant were closed, and the building was left alone. The lack of maintenance started to show quickly, making the building a case for restoration.
After seven years, in 2020, the building was finally sold to a family. The plan was to restore it over time, but the hotel and restaurant will not be re-opened again.
