The story behind the image
I remember the time in British Columbia in 2002 as one of the best periods in my life. I had a decent career going on and could afford exploring places like Canada, the United States, and South Africa. And from our first trip to Canada, I remember Tofino to be the highlight. Back then I wrote on (my old site) zanzig.com:
“Dreams? Well, if I could, I would immediately go to British Columbia, acquire a nice B&B with access to the Pacific Ocean or to a lake. Then I would bring in guests with my own floatplane. Unfortunately, this will remain a dream for some time.”
Mark Zanzig, 2003
Over the years, it did not get easier to follow this dream, and so it never came true.
Yet I remember Tofino as a perfect place for living. A small, peaceful, and friendly community that is far away from the noise of the big city, situated within an awesome landscape (and seascape) – and just an hour or so away from Vancouver that offers all amenities. A dream. My dream.
Petra took this image from a scenic flight offered by Tofino Air, and (you guessed it already) we both recommend to book such a flight should you visit the area.
It’s been an unforgetable experience.
