The story behind the image
Here is yet another image of Mono Lake, the iconic beauty in California.
The sun in the late afternoon had begun to cast long shadows. Some rocks emerging from the lake surface were already in the shadows while rocks that were nearby were still illuminated. What’s more, the rocks and the clear sky were reflected by the water, transforming the rocks in front of us almost into silhouettes. The dunes on the opposite shore were still brightly illuminated.
I love this image for the strong contrasts and gentle colors in the back. It expresses the quiet afternoon mood at the lake perfectly.
