The story behind the image
We had seen giraffes before. Like antelope, they are pretty common in the national parks in southern Africa. One might say “boring” and move on. Not us! Almost always we are exciting to watch a giraffe up close.
I photographed this one during a guided sun-downer excursion in the Chobe National Park in Botsuana. I liked the fact that the tall giraffe has to bend down a lot to get to the desired scrub. This enabled me to use a landscape format while still showing the loong neck of the animal.
The Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM did wonders again. While it is not a bargain by any means, it certainly pays off on a safari. (Try that with a smart phone!) Here’s a 1:1 cutout of the image at the top.

Super nice.
