The story behind the image
Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah is home to some spectacular nature and a feast for photographers and hikers alike.
My photo shows a single golden aspen tree (Populus tremuloides) that had settled on the steep red rocks of the canyon. It is hard to believe that a tree can grow to this size in this hostile location. I take this as a sign of hope: Life can grow almost everywhere, as long as some basic conditions are met. I like this thought.
But the image is also exceptional due as the yellow stands out in the sea of red color shades. The scars of the eroding rocks add detail.
Lovely.
