The story behind the image
In 2004 we traveled Switzerland for a week. We started in Zurich, made a stop in Berne to visit some friends, and concluded the trip in Luzern, a very old town located at the Vierwaldstätter See. With about 60,000 inhabitants it is one of the larger cities in Switzerland.
My image shows the historic Kapellbrücke, probably built around 1332, that crosses the river Reuss. It is roughly 203 meters long. made from wood and features a roof that protects against rain and snow. 110 paintings under the roof show scenes from Lucerne and Swiss history, reminding people that a pious lifestyle and happiness in life belong together.

The tower in the middle of the bridge used to be a water tower. Today it is home to a souvenir shop and the Lucerne Artillery Club.
The bridge even has its own homepage and has all the paintings and a lot more information.
