The story behind the image
When we visited the Addo Elephant Park the weather was far from perfect. In fact, it was really bad! The sky was covered completely, but – at least – it did not rain. (Not yet.) Anyway, about 500 meters into the park we encountered the first herd of about 30 elephants crossing the gravel road on their way to a nearby water hole.
I was in a fantastic position to photograph these majestic animals. After the herd had crossed the road, one elephant stopped just a few meters away from us to eat some scrub.
Can you imagine my joy when this Elephant turned slightly around (after having shown me his posterior for a while)? I could not stop taking photos. I probably pulled through an entire film here.
