The story behind the image
Here is yet another image of Mono Lake, the iconic beauty best known (for older folks) from the inner sleeve of the 1975 Pink Floyd classic album Wish You Were Here.
The sun in the late afternoon had begun to cast long shadows, dipping our location in the dark. However, the clear sky was reflected by the surface of the lake, turning the rocks in front of us almost into silhouettes. The opposite shore was still illuminated by the sunlight. Four seagulls were sitting on a rock, neatly arranged as if waiting to be photographed. 🙂
I love this image for the strong contrasts and gentle colors in the back. It expresses the quiet afternoon mood at the lake perfectly.
