The story behind the image
In 2001, Petra and I spent a long weekend in London, UK, to explore the city and do some Christmas shopping. I brought my tiny Kodak DC 4800 Zoom Digital camera which I had purchased earlier in the year.
One day we walked from our hotel in Paddington to the city center – through Kensington Gardens. We entered the park near Lancaster Gate and were overwhelmed by the beauty and peace of the Italian Gardens. The noon sun was shining brightly and so I aimed for a nice high-key image. I placed the sun into the upper right corner well aware of the fact that the sensor would not be able to cope with this invasion of light – but it created exactly the look I was looking for. The man passing the tiny pond was a welcome addition to the image as he was almost looking like an angel stepping out of the brightness.
Lovely.
