The story behind the image
This image from the family archive shows a view along the Lange Straße in Oldenburg i. Oldenburg, Germany. On the left you can see the historic clocktower that dates back to about 1468. The full and interesting story of the tower can be read at Oldenburg Tourismus (in German.)
So what has changed since this photo was captured in spring 1955 (from left to right)?
- Oldenburg Tourismus has moved to the building next to the Lappan (in 2018.)
- The white building (number 7) is now how to a MacDonald’s restaurant.
- The Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse der Stadtgemeinde Oldenburg (the public health insurance residing in number 8-9) has moved out. Today it is home to the Volksbank.
- The shops Bamberger (left) and Ludwig (right) do not exist any longer at Lange Straße 10. The store on the right is a DHL packet shop and kiosk today. For a while there was a shoe store where Bamberger (left) used to be, but it is unclear to me which business uses this fine address today.
From a technical point of view, the relative did a trememdous job with this photo. The small print is quite sharp and properly exposed which makes it joy to look at.
