The story behind the image
I found this very old shot in my archive, and it triggered some super nice memories.
The winter 1986/87 had been cold enough to push large ice floes from the Baltic Sea into the bay of Kiel in Germany. One of these days a friend and I drove to Schilksee, a yacht harbour outside of Kiel, and we took a long walk along the cliffs towards Friedrichsort. The ice floes had actually reached the beach and were so large that they could effortlessly carry several persons. So I asked my friend to pose for this fun shot – Lady On Ice – and pretend taking a sunbath.
Just in case you wonder – this ice floe actually rested on the beach, so we did not float on the open sea, and there was no risk involved at all (other than, maybe, getting a wet jacket.) You do not see this due to the tele lens and the nice angle that puts the ice floe to the bottom of the image, cropping away the beach and surroundings entirely.
Lovely memories!
