The story behind the image
We were at the Jugendhaus Berghof in Agatharied, Bavaria, today. Not only is this an affordable accommodation for youth groups and located near the Bavarian Alps – it is also an inspiring photo location. On a meadow there was an object that looked like a giant satellite dish. However, it was made from mirrors to cook water using solar energy. For safety reasons, the dish was pointing downward and away from the sun.
It had seen better times for sure – several mirror tiles were missing. But to me, this added some magic. Even today, I am amazed by the different levels of depth that can be seen. First, there is the reflection of the grass. It gets interesting where the tiles are missing: In then center, there is the blue sky (with just a few clouds) and the frame of the construction. Then there is a paddock bottom left. In the left corner, a mirror tile is missing but its blue mount is still visible. On the bottom right there is the town of Miesbach in the distance.
It’s a piece of art, really, and I like it. 😉
