The story behind the image

When you travel along the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) in the Canadian Rocky Mountains between Jasper and Lake Louise, you will find several awesome locations and hikes. For example, about 55 kilometers south of Jasper, there is the short hike to Sunwapta Falls, which are fed by the Sunwapta River.

What makes Sunwapta Falls so special is the heart shaped island at the top of the falls, which is bypassed by the water of the river right before it thunders down for about 18 meters.

Here’s a brave woman (in my mind) who has left the hiking path and walked towards the edge of the thundering waterfalls, gazing at the splashing water below her. I find it strange that young people often take unpredictable risks. I noticed that at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland as well. One mistake, one wrong move, and you’re gone. Then again, they are old enough to judge the risk involved.

By the way, Google Streetview images of October 2015 show that fences have been erected to prevent walking to the very edge of the waterfalls. (I guess there will be folks who climb over the fences and get there selfie anyway.)
