The story behind the image
In December 1998 we spent two weeks in Cabarete in the Dominican Republic, at the Hotel Terrazas Las Palmas slightly outside of Cabarete.
I took this image at the main beach of Cabarete on a slow morning.
Since then, Cabarete has changed a lot. The main street is really busy now, and many new buildings have been erected. Fortunately, the buildings are still low, so the village could preserve its surf and beach feeling.
The hotel we stayed is now called Ocean Manor Resort and it is – closed! Recent images show that serious efforts have been made to renovate and improve the complex. It looks much more attractive today than in 1998. This leaves me puzzled as to why it has been closed? (Of course, it could have been shut down temporarily during the Corona pandemic, but I feel it should have been re-opened by now.)
I think Cabarete is still an excellent destination for relaxed vacations at the beach.
