The story behind the image

I admit that I have a thing for old cars. While I (sadly) cannot afford to collect them, I still like to see and photograph them every now and then.

I found a 1959 Buick LeSabre at a historic car show in our neighborhood in Taufkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. The two-door sedan perfectly expresses the ‘Amercian Way of Living’ of the 1950s. It’s length of about 5.50 meters was great for a time and place when space for parking lots was not rare. (Just for comparison, our Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagen is just about 4.70 meters long, and it’s sometimes difficult to find a parking lot.)

I wanted a super reduced image of the trunk lid that puts the focus on the magnificient silver logo. The bumper at the bottom hints the context to the viewer, and the reflections of the surrounding trees provide some texture.

Anyway, the owners love their restored car and have added several nice details to make it unique: a little Elvis figure in the middle, the foot-shaped pedal, the red cover for the steering wheel. All the other details were in pretty good condition. The bright red overwhelmed me, and I could not resist to take a photo.

Very nice.

P.S.: Old Cars Weekly has a long and detailed article about the car.
